This unusual Bakelite bangle features a black resin wash or overdye, applied over the original white or cream Bakelite. The bangle was then cutback in a pretty vine and leaf design, revealing the color underneath. The cream Bakelite has mellowed to a light khaki hue.
The bangle is tube shaped, measuring 3/16" wide x 3/16" thick, with a standard 2 1/2" opening. Condition is excellent with visible wear to the overdye. This gives the bangle a slightly weathered appearance in spots, but doesn't detract from its beauty.
The undyed Bakelite tests positive with Simichrome. It also responds easily to hot water testing. I tested it with great care, but will remind you here that this type of bangle should not be cleaned with Simichrome or any other kind of solvent. It will ruin the resin wash. You should also avoid wearing a resin washed piece with lotion or sunscreen.
