YES- this is the real deal. A piece of burlesque and showgirl history from my private collection...
It's an insanely fabulous custom-made 1950's rich chocolate brown with gold butterflies embossed satin long hourglass mermaid gown with glittering metallic gold Lurex 3D shelf bust! The bodice is completely lined in nude satin as well as the mermaid hem, and it has a side metal zipper with hook and eye closure. Gold Lurex straps. Scooped front neckline and super low plunging scooped back neckline. Darted shelf bust with double pleated darts under each breast for a 3D effect. Princess seams down the front and back bodice, nipped defined wasp waist, double pleated hips and rear. The back bodice and waist are trimmed in metallic gold Lurex chord piping. Slim tapered pencil skirt that cuts off just below the knees with gold metallic Lurex chord piping and juts out into the very full 3D mermaid hem. Total extreme hourglass, form fitting silhouette. The mermaid hem is a sheer chocolate brown chiffon with the gold embossed butterfly motif. It has a built-in sheer nude chiffon crinoline trimmed in metallic gold Lurex tinsel at the bottom hem. This gold tinsel peeks out from underneath as you walk. The mermaid hem is gathered at the top and flares out in a 3D fashion. Such an amazing piece of vintage showgirl history. Perfect for any woman who really wants to steal the show.
The little history that I do know on this dress is that, yes, it did belong to a burlesque dancer in the 1950's, but other than that- nothing else is known. When I came across this dress originally, I couldn't believe my eyes. As a previous burlesque dancer myself, I couldn't believe I had come across a true piece of burlesque history.
