Wow- ladies, this dress is simply superb. Original early 1940s, its intricately and exquisitely beaded and bejewelled, and has a dramatic film noir silhouette. In a drapey jet black rayon crepe, the shape is lean and detailed- the fitted bodice is shaped with waist darts in front and back, with very long, tapered sleeves from the tucked puff shoulders, and an ultra high, draped neckline, with the skirt very closely fitted through the hips and given a gentle flare. But the beadwork sets this dress apart- draped over the shoulders and set into a pair of tiny triangular tabs on the hipline is a row of bulbous turquoise coloured fluted cabochons, in a gilt, textured circular frame, surrounded with the most delicate scrollwork of gold metallic thread and glistening seed beads. Very Eisenberg, and certainly very luxurious. In beautiful condition, this gem is all set to cut a fabulous, film noir dash at the next rockabilly weekender, a very special after five swing dance, gala or soiree, or any night at all sipping cocktails in devastating vintage decadence.
Measurements:
bust: 33"- would fit a smaller cup 32" bust well
waist: 26 1/2" - would fit a 25" to 26" waist well
hips: 34 1/2" measured 8" below waist seam- small through the hips.
bodice length: 18" (from intersection of neckline and shoulder seam to waist): very high neckline gives the long measurement- this dress would equal about a 16 1/2" bodice length.
skirt length: 26" from waist level to hemline with nothing in hem to let down.
Labels: No makers label! No labels found at all- as stated, the 'jewellery' effect trim gives it a very Eisenberg look, but with no label we can only guess who is responsible for this gem.
Closure: Metal zipper in left side seam and at back neckline. Long sleeves have snaps at wrist for ultra close fit.
Condition: This dress is in very good vintage worn condition. NO fade, NO weakness, NO popped seams, and it is in drycleaned condition. Very minor flaws to list: there is a pair of small, very faint greyish spots on right hip at side seam- see the final pic and you may spot them. Minimal. One pinhole in right sleeve just above the beadwork. Lastly, there are a very few seed beads missing(at least I think they are missing, but each side is the same..) on the very highest scrolls on either side of neckline. All in all, exceptional dress in excellent condition with only the smallest of signs of its considerable age.
