Aboard this ship, the instrument of surrender terminating the Second World War was signed 2 September 1945, while she lay at anchor in Tokyo Bay, Japan. Before being decommissioned in 1955, this historic battleship steamed half a million miles in over a decade of uninterrupted duty.
