Fabulous Vintage 1940 Tilt Hat of brown wool with mink and wide grosgrain making up a striking decoration from front crown to large back bow in back. This style of hat was also called a 'toy' or 'doll' hat because it was so jaunty and avant garde!
Very comfortable to wear, these hats are designed to ride low and tilted on the forehead and are held in place by a wide band that rides low on the back of the head. The main focal point in these hats is the milliner's design of the crown, forming them this way and that to make them stand out from any other. Each 'toy' had a flavor all it's own, and this one has that big bow of classy mink and grosgrain ribbon to make it stand alone! It was made in the late 30s or early 40s by Varsity of Hollywood, and has a tag stating that it is a size 23. In this type of hat, the measurement, or size, is a little larger because it is not measured around the head, but to fit on top of the head in front and the band in the back. I think most anyone can wear any size of toy tilt hat as it is completely adjustable. It is in wonderful vintage condition.
This is absolutely a show stopper of a hat, and would make a wonderful addition to your collection of Vintage hats!
