This gown was found in an antique shop in Florida. The most background information I have on it, is that it came from an estate of costume designer. The name is not known, and the name of the performer it was made for is not known. I do not know if it made it onto the stage. Either way, it is truly a work of art and a piece of history.
Circa 1940s - 1950s burlesque gown. The detailed beading is extraordinary. A combination of sequins, crystals, and beads. Beaded tassels hang from each breast, center of the breasts. Multiple tassels at the hip / crotch area. A tassel at the front hem and the back bottom hem. An extremely flirtatious tassel at the butt crack clasp. The gloves each have a single tassel hanging from them. The headband has a central tassel.
The butt clasp is a large metal clasp that makes for easy removal. It is adorned with a giant blue crystal.
The straps of the gown are attached with four hook and eyes, two on each strap. The hook is built into the underside of the bra cup and the eye is at the end of the straps. They are slightly larger than a normal hook and eye, and make for easy, smooth removal.
Per the rest of the gown, the gloves are made of the same stretchy material. They slide on and off easily and are heavily embellished.
The headband has the same style metal clasp as the butt clasp. A large metal clasp that can be easily removed. Due to the form fitting, stretchy material it molds to the head well.
The costume is in near perfect condition. There is some very slight pilling toward the lower thigh area of the gown. Hardly noticeable. The seam of one of the gloves is coming loose, but has not yet done so. Easy to reinforce or fix when the time comes. Other than that, outstanding.
