This sleeveless dress is so beautiful! It is another from my sweet and petite friend's vintage collection. It's home sewn by a very talented seamstress — I call it the Black Roses dress! It's simply gorgeous and would look amazing out twirling and whirling on the dance floor or being seen in one's favorite cocktail lounge.
This dress is sleeveless and has an under layer of what I believe to be taffeta — but once again, I'm no expert on fabrics. It's substantial and cool-feeling fabric, and the off-white fabric is printed with black roses and foliage.
The sheer outer layer of this dress feels like crepe and I'm not brave enough to hand-wash it. I learned the hard way about crepe after I hand-washed a dress that fit perfectly — and it to shrunk a size!
This dress has such awesome but simple details: slightly rounded neckline that dips slightly lower in the back; tiny pleating at the waist of the skirt, and an awesome self-fabric attached scarf at the left shoulder.
The scarf is accented with a silver metal and rhinestone pin, and all the stones are in place. This dress zips up the back with a metal zip and hook and crocheted loop closure. There are crocheted belt loops at each side of the waist, but no belt.
I looked it over carefully and found no flaws except a small hole in the skirt's black fabric and in the lining near a flower. I am happy to provide photos if requested. These are minuscule flaws, considering the age and fabric of this dress. It has been immaculately cared for and is just plain gorgeous.
Comparing its measurements to my modern size chart, this would best fit a size 8-10.
